Business Analysts

1. Competencies – What are the specific competencies required?

  • Tertiary Qualification in a related discipline e.g. Business or Commerce or IT
  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in a Business Analyst role in a business systems environment
  • Domain expert with 8 to 12 years’ experience within the relevant financial services area and experience in the banking payments space would be an added advantage (including Payments Integration, SWIFT, Sanctions screening)
  • Methods and techniques required for eliciting and documenting Business Requirements
  • Effective communicator through verbal and written mediums
  • Plans and organizes own work effectively – self-starter and able to function independently yet part of a team
  • Agile, Scrum, Lean and/or Kanban project management principles are an advantage
  • Undertakes assignments in a systematic manner
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • High standards of professional behavior and strong interpersonal skills in dealings with stakeholders including clients, colleagues and staff at all levels of the organization and across various regions/counties
  • High stress tolerance
  • Willingness to travel to various African countries and other continents

  • Business system development projects with active involvement through each phase of the project:
    • Eliciting, documenting, linking and managing Business and Stakeholder requirements
    • Defining and documenting Functional and Non-Functional requirements i.e. business object models,  use case scenarios, user interface design and flow, work instructions, reports. Creating test plans, scenarios and cases and the execution of tests against these
    • Supporting the implementation of a software solution
    • Documenting user/ help manuals
    • Business process modeling
  • The decomposition Business and System Requirements into Functional, Non-Functional Requirements and Transitional (where required) requirements that can be effectively developed, tested and re-used
  • The different phases and inputs / outputs of the System Development Lifecycle
  • Translating Stakeholder Requirements into Requirements Management and Communication to manage conflicts, issues and changes in order to ensure that stakeholders and the project team remain in agreement on the solution scope
  • Solution Assessment, Testing and Validation
  • Inspiring others and setting the tone for an inclusive and high performance team
  • Motivating and challenging the team to meet and exceed performance standards through continuous improvement and driving results

3. Deliverables – What end result needs to be achieved?

  • Provision of specific domain expertise to enable delivery teams
  • Evaluate, analyze and specify requirements for business systems / software / process / developments /enhancements
  • Conduct scenario analysis, gap analysis and impact analysis
  • Translating end user application/system requirements and ensuring the delivery team has a thorough understanding of these requirements
  • Liaise with Business and Technical stakeholders to design processes to enable and standardize the organization’s workflows
  • Capturing, analyzing and documenting functional requirements, challenging the business where appropriate to manage expectations and highlight risks/issues,
  • Reviewing requirements documents prepared by developers,
  • Business process modeling – actively investigating operational requirements, issues and opportunities to seek effective solutions,
  • Preparation of test scenarios and management of integration and system testing
  • Co-ordinate closely with the development team to document, test, deploy and support solutions
  • Perform tasks in rapid succession, iteratively, or simultaneously. Task priorities/ needs may change swiftly and the Business Analyst must be able to adapt quickly
  • Accurately and completely document all relevant business, functional and non-functional requirements
  • Effectively trace requirements across and within solution documents by referencing and linking requirements
  • Effectively support the development of solutions by clarifying requirements and providing feedback on related solution documents
  • Effectively support/ carry out the design and execution of required solution testing
  • Accurately identifies and communicates potential changes to, and their impact on, solutions
  • Accurately and consistently incorporates changes agreed and approved by the Program Team across affected requirements documentation
  • Effectively supports training initiatives related to the implementation of solutions, including providing feedback on related training material
  • Effectively supports users and post-implementation roll-out activities as required
  • Maintains business and system protocols by writing and updating procedures
  • Manage multiple projects at a time while paying strict attention to detail
