Engineer: Process Metallurgist

Introduction: The successful incumbent for this position will be in possession of a BSc or B Eng. in Metallurgy degree, with a minimum of 2 to 6 years’ experience in a metallurgical manufacturing environment. Responsibilities: • Determine product characteristics based on customer or specification requirements • Develop process parameters to meet these requirements. • Set the standards for product realisation (procedures) parameters. • Monitor the product and process for quality and throughput • Setting up process parameters for new products to be manufactured • Perform disposition decisions on non-conforming products. • Implement business systems to support the above. • Optimize product throughput (quality, yield, volume, cost) • Training of metallurgical EIT’s for the business • Solve technical, system and metallurgical problems arising from the above. • Problem solving using data analysis and root cause failure analysis Qualification and Experience: • BSc or B Eng. In Metallurgy • 2 to 6 years’ minimum experience in a metallurgical manufacturing environment (Excluding 2 years of an Engineering training program) • MDP qualification will be an added advantage • Knowledge of the following will be required: o Stainless Steel product o Manufacturing process / line capabilities (Annealing pickling, hot/cold, rolling/flat rolling, pyrometallurgy) o Quality Assurance o Control and project management.
